Civista Health Foundation announces King and Queen candidates for 13th Annual Mardi Gras Ball
On February 21, 2004 at 8:30 pm, come out and join the conga line as we celebrate our annual Mardi Gras Event with a tropical twist. Civista Health Foundation will host it’s Annual Mardi Gras Ball on Saturday February 21, 2004 at the Greater Waldorf Jaycees Community Center.
Now in its 13th year, this year’s race for the crown features three men and three women who are running for the coveted title of King Rex and Queen Mystique. Vying for the title of King Rex are Bullocks Piano Salon East owner Byx Bullock, First Republic Mortgage VP and partner Craig Gough, and Michael Raymond of Raymond Funeral Service, P.A.. Queen candidates include Baldus Realtor Cris O’Bryhim Curtis, Diana Rucci of Waldorf Ford and Dodge and co-owner of Don Savino’s, and Betty Jean Turner of Bank of America in Waldorf.
This popular event is open to the public and attracts a sell-out crowd of Southern Marylanders for a festive evening. Again this year, guests will dance the night away to the sounds of Highway Star. Fronted by two female and two male lead vocalists, and backed by “tight” rhythm and horn sections, Highway Star is a twelve-piece brass band that has provided Washington and Baltimore with exciting variety entertainment for more than a decade.
The event generates revenues through individual ticket sales, corporate sponsorships, and the popular King Rex/Queen Mystique candidate campaign. Because of the growth of this successful event, advance reservations are required and walk-in guests can not be accommodated this year. Tickets are $75 per person through January 31 or until sold out, and then will increase to $80 per person on February 1 or until sold out.
Proceeds from the 13th Annual Mardi Gras Ball will help fund a “C”-Arm fluoroscopy machine for Civista Medical Center. A mobile advancement of the x-ray machine, this unit is used by surgeons and enables individual images to show a progression of movement, instead of a still frame. Often used in minimally invasive surgeries, this technologically advanced item will be an integral component of the fluoroscopic imaging system at Civista. It will provide the highest quality imaging performance for an exceptional range of clinical applications within the surgery department, such as orthopedic and vascular interventions, as well as pain treatment, and cardiac and urological procedures.
The success of the Mardi Gras Ball is due to its tremendous volunteer leadership. Chairing the event this year are Carole Lewis and Mary Winkler. Committee members include Jane Beswick, Bobbie Baldus, William Collins, Becky Evans, Shirley Hancock, John Hungerford, Tracey Messick, Pete Perry, Tina Raymond, Sherrie Sanders, Chuck Wineland, Sue Wineland and Gingie Winkler.
Civista Health Foundation is a fundraising organization with a mission to enhance the hospital’s financial resources so it may provide excellent health care services to all members of the community. The Foundation’s grants to the Medical Center and its programs now total more than $1 million dollars For event details or to make reservations, call the Civista Health Foundation, 301-609-4132, or visit www.civista.org.
