Need an outlet for entertainment?

Plug into the most electrifying gala of the year in Southern Maryland—Civista Health Foundation’s Annual Mardi Gras Ball on Saturday February 8, 2003 at Middleton Hall in Waldorf.

Now in its 12th year, this year’s race for the crown will features three men and three women who are running for the coveted title of King Rex and Queen Mystique.

Vying for the title of King Rex are retired federal worker and professional volunteer Gordon Brown, local attorney Frank Jones, and oncologist Krishan Mathur, M.D. Queen candidates include B&B owner Kathy Kazimer, CSM’s Lisa Romano and Jane Staples, a State Farm insurance agent

This popular event is open to the public and attracts a sell-out crowd of Southern Marylanders for a festive “New Orleans Style” evening.

Again this year, guests will dance the night away to the sounds of Highway Star. Fronted by two female and two male lead vocalists, and backed by “tight” rhythm and horn sections, Highway Star is a twelve-piece brass band that has provided Washington and Baltimore with exciting variety entertainment for more than a decade.

Because of the growth and successful event, advance reservations are required and walk-in guests can not be accommodated this year. The event generates revenues through individual ticket sales, corporate sponsorships, and the King Rex/Queen Mystique candidate campaign.

Proceeds from this year’s Ball are being designated to fund cardio-pulmonary equipment and blood gas machines to expand Civista’s Respiratory Services department. The success of the Mardi Gras Ball is due to its tremendous volunteer leadership. Chairing the event this year are Sue Wineland and Mary Todd Winkler. The Foundation is pleased to recognize Kay Davis as the honorary chair this year.

Civista Health Foundation is a fundraising organization with a mission to enhance the hospital’s financial resources so it may provide excellent health care services to all members of the community. The Foundation’s grants to the Medical Center and its programs now total more than $1 million dollars For event details or to make reservations, call the Civista Health Foundation 301.609.4132.
