Civista Medical Center's Volunteen Program
VolunTeen Program Information: (301) 609-4444

What is the “VolunTeen” Program?

Civista Medical Center is proud to offer our VolunTeen Program, an opportunity for teens to have an in-depth healthcare environment experience to help them decide if healthcare is the right career for them.

VolunTeens gain invaluable experience and learn how hospitals really operate while assisting staff members and patients.

This program has replaced the traditional "candy striper" to allow these functions to be fulfilled by aspiring young people as an educational experience. VolunTeens spend between 4 and 30 hours each week at Civista Medical Center over the summer.

Some program duties may include: Answering phones, transporting patients throughout the facility, making patient beds, reading to patients, washing the hands and faces of patients, refilling water pitchers, transporting laboratory specimens, and more.

How do I get Involved?
Students between the ages of 14 and 17 are encouraged to apply to the program. The application process begins in February of each year. Following the submission of a completed application, students are invited to the Medical Center for an interview. The program begins in June.

Contact Civista's Human Resources Department at (301) 609-4444 in order to receive an application for next year's VolunTeen program.

Civista Health Auxiliary
Auxiliary office phone: (301) 609-4129

The Civista auxiliary is a network of dedicated volunteers who proudly assist our hospital staff to achieve the highest quality of physical care and emotional comfort for our patients.

Our volunteers provide innumerable service for patients and the community; from supplying daily coffee service and offering free blood pressure screenings to running the hospital gift shop and staffing the information desk. Volunteers also work in the many hospital departments, assisting with office paperwork and helping comfort patients.

And, in addition to their other fine work, the auxiliary also generously offers career scholarships each year to residents of Charles County who qualify and wish to pursue careers in healthcare.

We welcome new volunteers who are committed to making our hospital the very best it can be. Please call the auxiliary office at (301) 609-4129 or stop by the information desk in the front lobby for more information.

With your help, we can provide the very best care for our community.
