BREATHE FREE AT CIVISTA As the healthcare leader for Southern Maryland, Civista actively prohibits the use of any tobacco products within the building or on the grounds to promote healthy habits, discourage unhealthy ones, and to protect the wellness of all who work, visit, and receive care at our facility. According to the American Cancer Society, tobacco use is responsible for 1 in 3 cancer deaths in the United States, and almost 9 million of our citizens are afflicted with serious illnesses caused by smoking. In fact, 1 in 5 deaths can be directly linked to tobacco use. Civista maintains a tobacco-free & smoke-free environment at all of our facilities. The use of tobacco products of any kind is prohibited, not only in our facility, but is also prohibited in parking lots and in walkways. This is for the health of our patients, visitors, employees, and volunteers—and to promote the health and wellness of the people and communities we serve. We'd like to help the members of our community quit for good. Civista partners with the Charles County Health Department to offer a smoking cessation program.
