Celebrating 70 Years of Caring at Civista

70 Years of Caring: A History Shared, a Future Prepared

Civista is celebrating 70 years of service to our community this year. Our history is a story of a community in action. After a deadly tornado ripped through Charles County in 1926 leaving many dead or injured, the citizens of Charles County banded together to make a community hospital a reality. Civista and the Charles County community have together seen seven decades of caring, progress, growth, and achievement.

In 1939, 408 patients were served at the hospital. Today we have the capacity to serve 42,000 patients annually. And, we are prepared for future expansion when necessary so that we may continue to provide efficient and family-centered care.

While increasing services and extending our outreach, we continue to be a not-for-profit organization bringing the finest in technology and personal care to Charles County and the citizens of southern Maryland. As a member of the community, you are not only an important part of Civista’s proud history, but also a vital part of our future together.
