Janie Fritz,
RN, C

Same Day Surgery
"I’ve been a nurse for 14 years — since graduating from the Charles County Community College. It has been the best opportunity of my life. Right now I’m getting more involved in pain management. I did my ICU fellowship at a metropolitan hospital and couldn’t wait to get to Civista. Everybody here seems like family. It is a small environment where you have at least a nodding relationship with everyone. I get to know my patients and I never feel lost in the crowd. There is all the opportunity for education and growth that I can handle. At Civista there is everything here that I could possibly need. Why go anywhere else when all the opportunities exist here."

Intensive Cardiac Care Unit (ICCU)
Cardio-Pulmonary Rehabilitation
"I’ve been a nurse for 30 years, which includes 18 years with Civista. The people here are friendly and it’s in my own community. I like knowing the patients I take care of. The salaries are competitive and I don’t have the hassle of commuting. And the parking is free! I worked at two larger hospitals and there is more of a sense of a team here because you know the people that you work with."

"Although I’ve been a nurse for nine years, I began working at Civista nine years ago. I was born and raised in Charles County and Civista is like my home. My family, my parents, my grandmother have all come here. Our unit is wonderful. It’s a great team and we work well together. They have a lot of experience and we have great physicians to work with. I’m proud of where I work — I want to be a part of this — this is where I’m from. I do a lot of preceptoring, orienting new hires or transfers to the unit, helping them with paperwork, everything they need to know to do their jobs. I think the preceptor program is very important for a new nurse or nursing assistant when they come to a new place."

Whitney Hart,
RN, C

Birthing Center, 1 East
"I started at Civista ten years ago, although I've been a nurse for 19 years. I had worked at another hospital, with agencies, and a nursing homes. Most people have been here a long time and that's conducive to a friendly environment. We can develop close relationships. Yes, we've been short staffed and that's a national problem, but we help each other out. We have a good relationship with the doctors, excellent pediatricians and obstetricians, and there is a lot of trust there. The physicians are respectful of us and that's important. My experience at Civista has been very challenging and diverse. There are a lot of educational opportunities for us."
