This class teaches beauty tips to female cancer patients so that they can feel better about how they look during chemotherapy or radiation treatments. Learn about make-up, skin care, nail care, and how to deal with hair loss. The class includes a free make-up kit to use during the workshop.

The event—hosted by the Zonta Club and dedicated in memory of Gale A. Cooke, a local crime victim and admired advocate who died in 2000—includes a 3-mile walk with prizes and awards, music, and more. The Zonta Club of Charles County is part of a worldwide organization of professionals working together to advance the status of women through service and advocacy. All money raised at this year’s event will go to the Zonta Fund which supports agencies in Charles County who work to prevent violence against women and support victims of domestic violence like the Forensic Nurse Examiners Program.

Using scores from evaluations done by the Chicago-based nonprofit hospital accreditation group The Joint Commission, the UMMS report last month ranked Civista Medical Center at No. 6 in the entire state.

Civista’s Chief Medical Officer Dr. Mark Dumais credited hospital leadership with the results: “Our performance is the result of the board of directors focusing the entire organization on delivering quality health care.”

The ACR is a national organization serving more than 32,000 diagnostic and interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, and nuclear medicine and medical physicists with programs focusing on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology and the delivery of comprehensive health care services.

The ACR awards accreditation to facilities for the achievement of high practice standards after a strict peer-review evaluation. The accreditation process is conducted by board-certified physicians who are experts in their field. They assess the qualifications of the personnel and the adequacy of facility equipment, and report their findings to the ACR.
