Using scores from evaluations done by the Chicago-based nonprofit hospital accreditation group The Joint Commission, the UMMS report last month ranked Civista Medical Center at No. 6 in the entire state.

Civista’s Chief Medical Officer Dr. Mark Dumais credited hospital leadership with the results: “Our performance is the result of the board of directors focusing the entire organization on delivering quality health care.”

Civista will offer a Stroke Education Table at the Civista Health Foundation 16th Annual 5K Run/Walk for Wellness.  Proceeds for this year’s Civista 5K Run/Walk for Wellness will help to purchase specialty orthopedic surgical equipment. Please stop by to receive free information about stroke prevention and identifying the signs of stroke.

And, Civista is hosting “Striking Out Stroke” night at the Blue Crabs Baseball Game on Wednesday, June 22nd. Join us for an evening of the great American pastime and help spread the word about stroke prevention at the same time.

This annual event attracts hundreds of participants and features a 5K (3.1 mile) course through the streets of La Plata. Held rain or shine, the event begins and ends at the La Plata Town Hall. Join us for a fit-filled morning, a post-event healthy brunch, and a chance to win terrific door prizes. Top finishers and winners in other special categories will be awarded. The first 500 registrants will receive a commemorative t-shirt. Pre-registration is required with a $30 donation. Please call the Civista Health Foundation Office at 301-609-4132 to register. On race day, pack pick-up begins at 7:30 am and the event start is 8:30 am.

May is National Stroke Awareness Month. Do you know the risk factors for stroke? Visit Civista’s booth at the Run/Walk for Wellness to learn what the risk factors are and what you can do to reduce them. Members of Civista’s Stroke Team will be available to discuss signs and symptoms of stroke and what you should do if you suspect you or a loved one is having a stroke. Blood pressure screening will also be available. We look forward to seeing you there!
