This beautiful venue was a welcoming place to enjoy time with fellow survivors. Approximately 150 survivors and their families enjoyed an evening of food and fellowship at the reception.

The building, constructed on Garrett Avenue in 1938 as a result of a devastating tornado, has historic significance as the first hospital in Charles County. It is very fitting that it will once again become a part of the Civista Medical Center campus and offer much needed room for expansion of the services we provide to the community.

We appreciate the Charles County Commissioners’ commitment to Civista and their support of our mission to provide healthcare services to the citizens of Charles County.

Friday, May 21st
5pm to 8pm at the Healing Garden at Civista Medical Center

For the first time, we will hold the gathering at the Healing Garden located at Civista Medical Center. This beautiful venue will be a welcoming place to enjoy time with your fellow survivors. Moving the event to the Healing Garden has afforded us the opportunity to offer the event before the Relay date at a more relaxed and hopefully a cooler and more comfortable time.

This Celebration of Life Cancer Survivor’s event is about you and your fellow survivors. There will not a formal program on this evening; just an opportunity for you and a guest to stop by between 5:00 and 8:00pm and enjoy light hors d’oeuvres, music, and fellowship.

Even though this celebration will not be held the same night as the Relay as it has in previous years, we encourage you to also participate in the Relay for Life Event on Friday, June 11, 2010 at the Regency Furniture Stadium. The American Cancer Society Relay Survivor Committee will host the customary survivor roll call and lap. Your participation as one of the many persons who have survived cancer will serve as an inspiration to all, especially those who may be newly diagnosed.

We hope you will join us on May 21 for the Celebration of Life Open House at The Healing Garden at Civista Medical Center.

Here is some additional information you may find helpful:

Car Pooling is encouraged, as parking is limited. There will be signs designating survivor parking. Please come to the main entrance of the hospital located on 5 Garrett Avenue.

This is an open house. You and a guest may stop by anytime between 5pm and 8pm and stay for as little or as long as you like.

May is also National Stroke Awareness Month. Visit Civista’s booth at the Run/Walk for Wellness to learn what the risk factors are for stroke and what you can do to reduce them.

Members of Civista’s Stroke Team will be available to discuss signs and symptoms of stroke and what you should do if you suspect you or a loved one is having a stroke. Blood pressure screening will also be available.
