Five Wishes makes it easy because it is written in everyday language and deals with the things people care about most: their comfort, maintaining their dignity and other personal, spiritual and family matters.

Civista Health encourages community members to express their wishes regarding healthcare, and for providers and facilities to respect those wishes, whatever they may be.  Complete an advance directive and name the person who will make healthcare decisions for you if you cannot make them yourself.  For a free copy of Civista Health’s advance directive guide called “Five Wishes” please call 888-332-4847.

The Charles County colorectal cancer mortality rate is higher than the Maryland state average. Join us on Thursday, April 11th at 11:30 am for a special community education presentation on cancer of the colon.

This free event will feature a panel of experts in colorectal cancer screening, detection, and treatment. They will discuss risk factors,  screening recommendations, and the latest technologies available for treatment. Light refreshments will be provided.

The first meeting will be Thursday, April 4, 2013 from 1pm to 2pm at the Nagula Conference Room #2 at Civista Medical Center.

This group includes patients with congestive heart failure (CHF), heart attacks (MI), coronary artery bypass grafts (CABG), PTCA or stents, valve replacement or repair, heart transplant, left ventricular assist device (LVAD) and stable angina. Together, members learn the skills that help manage their condition and improve their quality of life, take part in discussions and practice new skills. Some of the topics covered include: how blood pressure works, lowering secondary cardiac risk factors, exercise programs and understanding medicines and treatment.
