Civista Receives Aster Award for Community Benefits Campaign

Civista Health was awarded with a prestigious Aster Award for its recent advertising and marketing campaign demonstrating the many benefits provided to the community by the Civista Health system.

“We are exceptionally proud of the recognition we received for our recent community benefits campaign, and this Aster Award is confirmation that our hospital and our marketing are on par with the best in the nation,” said Joyce Riggs, Director, Community Development and Planning at Civista Health.

“The quality of this year’s entries went well beyond the judges’ expectations,” said Melinda R. Lucas, Aster Awards program coordinator.

The Aster Awards recognizes outstanding healthcare professionals for excellence in their advertising and marketing efforts. The 2011 Aster Awards received approximately 3,000 entries from across the United States as well as Canada and South America. Entries must score at least in the top 16% to receive an award. Judging criteria includes creativity, layout and design, functionality, message effectiveness, production quality and overall appeal.

Civista in Top 10 Hospitals in MD for Outcome Scores

Civista Medical Center has ranked among the Top 10 hospitals in the state of Maryland, according to a recently released report from the University of Maryland Medical System, and as reported in the Maryland Independent. Using scores from evaluations done by the Chicago-based nonprofit hospital accreditation group The Joint Commission, the UMMS report last month ranked Civista Medical Center at No. 6 in the entire state.

Civista’s Chief Medical Officer Dr. Mark Dumais credited hospital leadership with the results: “Our performance is the result of the board of directors focusing the entire organization on delivering quality health care.”

Civista Named Among “Most Improved”

We are very proud to announce that Civista Medical Center has been selected as one of 25 hospitals nationwide to be honored with the award for Most Improved Use of Information Technology to Enhance the Quality of Health Care.

The award is given by Hospitals and Health Networks magazine, a journal of the American Hospital Association, and recognizes hospital information technology in five key areas: Quality, customer service, business processes, work force issues, and public health and safety.

This is the first year Civista Medical Center has received this award, and we were the only Maryland hospital to be so recognized this year. These new systems enhance patient care, increase patient safety, eliminate waste, and reduce the potential for medical errors. One of the most exciting new technologies at Civista is called “PACS,” a picture-archiving communications system which gives us immediate access to patient images when and where we need to view them, resulting in timelier and more cost effective patient care.

While we’re very proud of these new technologies and the recognition they bring our facility, the fundamental reason we’re investing in these systems is to make our patients’ stays at the hospital—and ultimately their outcomes—significantly better. These new information systems are increasing patient safety, strengthening quality, and helping us to provide compassionate care while promoting superior customer service.
